Fucesa and Totláli: Workshop on Arthropod Preservation

San Pablo Tejalpa welcomed a group of entomology enthusiasts as well as biologists and taxidermy artists, convened by Totláli. For five intensive hours, over two days, our entomology specialist shared cutting-edge European techniques to naturalize insects and arachnids without sacrificing a single taxonomic detail.

The experience began with a reflection on bioethics and the legality of collections, of course including care and handling. Prior to fixation, specimens A1 were selected to achieve proper naturalization. Specimens were mounted using entomological pins and some arthropods on Bristol boards, carefully preserving the characters and patterns that help determine the species; another factor that was taken care of was the museography of these specimens. At the conclusion of this workshop, each participant will be able to showcase their work to enrich classrooms, museums, or educational projects.

Those who attended expressed interest in a second edition which is currently being prepared.
This alliance helps preserve species and communicate the significance of their existence on the planet. Fucesa contributes decades of experience on the importance of an entomology collection and its care. Totláli contributes with its educational vocation in its natural reserve located in San Pablo Tejalpa, Zumpahuacán State of Mexico, promoting tourism, strengthening ecology and the environment.
Those who participated in this first edition received a certificate of participation, taking with them the processes of handling and preservation of different species for various exchange forums in this sector and the conviction that science can and should translate into concrete actions to protect our biodiversity.

Very soon we will publish the call for the next session, accompanied by photo galleries and interviews with the protagonists of this entomological event. In the meantime, we thank Totláli for their hospitality and each participant for their unwavering dedication.
